Exports reached 532,000 tonnes between January and April, up 43% year on year, reinforcing the export momentum set to feature prominently at YugAgro 2026
Russia's sunflower oil exports to India rose sharply in the first four months of 2026, reinforcing the growing importance of export markets to the country's agricultural sector and creating new opportunities across the oilseed value chain.
According to the Agriculture Ministry's Agroexport Center, Russia exported 532,000 tonnes of sunflower oil to India between January and April 2026, a 43% increase on the same period last year. Export revenues rose faster still, climbing 70% year on year to US$691 million.
India was the largest importer of Russian sunflower oil during the period, ahead of Turkiye, Iran, Belarus and China. Russia accounted for approximately half of India's sunflower oil imports in 2025, a year in which the country imported 2.89 million tonnes in total.
The figures point to renewed momentum for one of Russia's most important agricultural processing industries. Exports to India declined in 2025, making the early 2026 recovery a notable shift and underscoring Russia's position as a reliable supplier to one of the world's largest vegetable oil markets.
Rising demand pulls investment through the entire value chain. Producers are focused on yields and crop quality. Processors are working to raise throughput. Storage operators are under pressure to reduce losses. Logistics providers must handle larger volumes. The result is sustained demand for machinery, storage systems, processing technology, packaging and automation, and a clear opportunity for the suppliers that deliver them.
